Research Programmes and Research Centres

Interdisciplinary research programmes
Currently, FASoS houses four thematic programmes:

  • Politics and Culture in Europe (PCE)
  • Maastricht University Science, Technology and Society Studies (MUSTS)
  • Arts, Media and Culture (AMC)
  • Globalisation, Transnationalism and Development (GTD)

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) at Maastricht University (UM) is unique in its highly developed interdisciplinary approach. Scholars with different disciplinary backgrounds — historians, political scientists, literary and arts scholars, sociologists, anthropologists, philosophers and others — are brought together in joint research programmes that lead to joint workshops, conferences and colloquia. More importantly, they foster the exchange of ideas and the willingness to look beyond disciplinary boundaries; they foster creativity, unlock new ideas and open up unknown paths to new solutions.

Research Centres
Next to the research programmes, the faculty has four research centres:

  • The Centre for Gender and Diversity
  • The Maastricht Centre for European Governance
  • The Centre for Urban and Euregional Studies
  • The Limburg Centre for Social History (associated)

Each centre focuses on a specific subject that complements or is part of the research programmes. The centres allow the faculty to focus on and stimulate research into specific key topics.
